The Body Shop Banana Shampoo & Conditioner

Amoxil. You might not remember the name, but I’m 99% certain you’ll remember the gorgeous sugary taste of that banana flavoured antibiotic liquid you got as a kid.

Well that is the amazing smell of the Banana shampoo and conditioner by The Body Shop; an old classic from the early days of the brand, repackaged and available to all (this isn’t a recent thing by the way).

Forever the critic

I make no bones about being The Body Shops biggest critic but when appropriate, their most ardent supporter. Working with them in the first year’s of my career taught my invaluable lessons and skills but at the same time, allowed me to see some of their inner most workings.

There are few products of theirs that I still use, either because they’ve been discontinued or reformulated beyond recognition but then there are the old favourites that even they seem to designate as ‘untouchable’. The banana shampoos and conditioner certainly appears to be two of them.

Ingredients

With the third most concentrated ingredient in the formulation being squished banana (second highest in the conditioner) you’re definitely onto a winner. As well as a host of other gentle surfactants, cleansers and conditioners (many of which even brands such as LUSH Ltd opt for) you’ll also find a little Community Fair Trade honey mixed in there as well.

But do they work?

The scent alone is enough to keep me coming back for more, I have to say. But is that enough? The duo are undoubtedly excellent shampoo and conditioners in their own right, regardless of fragrance. The shampoo manages to gently clear the crap and build-up of product in my hair without leaving it straw-like and crispy; whilst the conditioner restores moisture and gentle shine without leaving it lank, flat and greasy. What’s not to love?

The Price

For what they are, the price is amazing, at just £4.50 each per bottle. I recommend getting two bottles of shampoo to one bottle of conditioner as that’ll be the way it gets used up (the conditioner is really thick).

The Body Shop Banana Shampoo & Banana Conditioner are available exclusively (obviously) from The Body Shop in-store and online. Online is always worth checking out as I don’t remember the last time there wasn’t a ‘spend this get this off’ or ‘buy one of these, get twelve of these free plus 40% of that‘ sort of thing; at the moment it’s Spend £25 get £10 off with code 14670.
